BACKGROUND:
Red Bull Music commissioned MACRO WAVES to design the environment for the 3 year anniversary celebration of CLUB CHAI, highlighting Oakland’s globally reaching dance party, label, radio show and curatorial project, founded by DJs/producers, FOOZOOL & 8ULENTINA. Connecting their sonic origins and global aspirations for the future, CLUB CHAI centers diasporic narratives, women, and trans artists, DJs and producers while hybridizing non-Western sounds with club music.


APPROACH:
Consulting with CLUB CHAI for inspiration on art direction, MACRO WAVES conceptualized and fabricated installations with digital animations to transform Public Works in San Francisco. The final direction took 1,000+ attendees into a visceral landscape that tied traditional Middle-Eastern elements with a futuristic underground rave setting.
